First Presbyterian Albany

Praying to become God's hope and joy!

An old church doing new things. A place left for dead now resurrected and spreading the hope and joy of Jesus Christ outside of the church!

Book review - Peace in the Storm: Meditations on Chronic Pain and Illness

I think Peace in the Storm is a great book. As I said in my amazon review of the book, it really does give me peace in the midst of whatever storm I'm currently weathering.

The author is a lupus, fibromyalgia, Graves and Hashimoto's disease patient, therefore she is able to…

On Love and Why My Third Husband Will Be A Dog

Well, I fell and fractured my ankle right after the Christmas Eve service. (Friend me on FaceBook to see the pics - I refuse to clutter the church's network with them.) So I'm down (literally!) and trying not to feel sorry for myself. So far I can only do things that can be done from a serious reclining position, with my foot above my heart; i.e. not much of anything.

I'm taking a break from incessant TV watching (thank goodness for… Continue

First 1st Pres Ning Network Blog Post

Well, I've wanted to start blogging on our church's Ning Network site for awhile now. Though for all the apparent activity on this network, no one will ever see what I write. That's OK. I've been reading some Thomas Merton. This prayer seems particularly appropriate for my first post here.

Let me be content with whatever darkness surrounds me, finding Him always by…

March Minister's Minute in the Journal of Hope and Joy

Here we are in March. I am not sure what happened to January or February. Both seemed to fly by. As a child it seemed as though time went on forever. Those four hours of waiting for that moment when my friend would finally come over to spend the night. As soon as our mothers agreed my life became filled with such glorious anticipation that at times I would stare at the clock and count the seconds. By the time the fours hours were up it felt as though a lifetime had passed. Those six hours of… Continue

My Mom, Jean Condit

God Bless everyone who have been praying for my Mom. She is out of the hospital and is at our home now and doing quite well. She is getting stronger every day. Apparently she had pneumonia and a urinary tract infection. She will be staying with us for a while (not sure how long) and then probably moving to Alabama to live with my sister. Leaving her home will be a big adjustment for her as it would be for anyone, so please keep her in your prayers.
